Reframing with Positive Intelligence
Today’s Wednesday Wisdom on Friday explorers how more men are turning to emotional intelligence in order to be better leaders and connect more meaningfully with the people they work and live with. In the U.S., men are socialized to believe that vulnerability is weak, to beat themselves up after a setback and to not ask for what they need. Unfortunately these behaviors are not an indication for success in today’s workplace. I work with men (and women) to pay attention, and to build empathy for themselves and others by questioning the truths of their stories. All of this takes great strength and perseverance. And it can be learned.
Men and Emotional Intelligence
Today’s short Wednesday Wisdom reminds us that “we are all just walking each other home”. Ram Dass was talking about coming home to ourselves on a deep and most profound level. It’s also about “looking for the helpers”, coined by Mr. Rogers’ mother, who accompany us to get through tough times when the news is bad. They are often right next to you.

Taking wisdom and insight from Catherine May’s book, “Wintering”, today’s Wednesday Wisdom focuses on how we can navigate through seasons in our lives where we feel dark or frozen out. Asking ourselves what we can learn from this time and how we can give our bodies the rest we need in order to keep going. The invitation is to understand and accept that, like winter, dark times won’t last forever. We have to go through them without fear, humiliation or paranoia, remembering that summer is on the other side.

Today’s Wednesday Wisdom revisits the topic of self care as a movement to avoid burnout rather than as a response to it. Authentic self-care is the practice of taking an active role in protecting our well-being and pursuing happiness. It’s about having the ability, and the resources, to respond periods of stress so that they don’t lead to a health crisis. The research reminds us that our self-care impacts everyone around us. When we are willing to adopt and model good practices of self-care, we create healthier homes, workplaces and communities. And a healthier world!

Today’s Wednesday Wisdom looks at trust as a practice. Trust means relying on someone or something to do the right thing. We have to practice seeing that positive action and knowing that it is meant for us and can provide a sense of safety. Trust is confidence in ourselves and others, here and otherworldly.

Today’s Wednesday wisdom explores the concept of mental fitness from a Positive Intelligence standpoint. We all have judges and saboteurs that live inside us but we also have wise sage beings that live within us as well. When we pay attention to the sage voices of wisdom and clarity, we return to our true essence as a baby and are guided by insight, curiosity and love.
